SERVICE 11 — LAUNDRY RENOVATIONS
In St Kilda the laundry is often a cupboard in a hallway, a corner of the bathroom or a narrow room at the back of a terrace. We renovate laundries on their own or alongside a bathroom, planning where the machines, tub and storage sit before choosing a single finish.

SHEET A — PLAN 01
Common in St Kilda apartments. Machines stack or sit side by side behind doors, with a slim tub, overhead shelving and a bench that folds work into a hallway. Door swing, ventilation and access to taps and waste decide what fits.

SHEET A — PLAN 02
Where one wet room has to do both jobs, the laundry is usually tucked into joinery beside the vanity so the bathroom still reads as a bathroom. Planning both together keeps plumbing runs short and finishes consistent.

SHEET A — PLAN 03
A narrow room in a terrace or house, often at the back. One continuous bench along the length, machines underneath, a tub at the plumbing end and tall storage opposite if the width allows. Hanging space and a floor waste are worth planning in.

SHEET B — SECTION
A laundry takes water, heat and daily wear, so materials are chosen for moisture as much as looks.
— Cabinetry: moisture-resistant carcasses, sealed edges and a gap for machine vents.
— Tubs: a drop-in or undermount tub set into the bench, or a freestanding unit where space is tight.
— Tiling: a durable floor tile and a splashback behind the tub; see Bathroom Tiling.
— Waterproofing: laundries are wet areas, so floors and junctions are treated as part of the job; see Waterproofing.
Material note — square wall tile in sage and off-white, suited to a tub splashback
SHEET C — SEQUENCE
1 Plan the space
Measure the room or cupboard, confirm machine sizes and decide where the tub, bench and storage belong.
2 Select finishes
Choose cabinetry, benchtop, tub, tapware and tile together so they suit any adjoining bathroom.
3 Strip out and rough-in
Remove old fittings, then position plumbing, waste and power for the new layout.
4 Waterproof and tile
Treat the wet-area floor and junctions, then lay floor and splashback tiles.
5 Install and fit off
Fit cabinetry, benchtop and tub, connect tapware and leave the space ready for the machines.
SHEET D — QUESTIONS
More answers on the Bathroom Renovation FAQ, or ask us directly through Contact.
Often, yes. Machines and a tub can sit in joinery beside the vanity. Whether it works depends on the room’s width, door position and existing plumbing, which is assessed during planning.
Many can, provided the machines are designed to stack and the cupboard allows for depth, ventilation and service access. Check manufacturer requirements before choosing appliances.
Laundries are wet areas, so waterproofing is considered as part of the renovation. The Bathroom Waterproofing Guide explains why it matters.
We work across St Kilda, St Kilda East, St Kilda West, Elwood, Balaclava, Windsor, Prahran, Albert Park and Middle Park. See Service Areas.
